We treat teeth orthodontically with a clear braces system called Invisalign for mild to moderate crowding issues. Invisalign is a set of clear “aligners” that are custom fit to your teeth. As new and modified aligners are changed periodically, they guide your teeth into a straight position. We specifically look for cases that can be easily treated in 12 to 18 months.
Having said the above statement, Invisalign is a great system for most situations. The obvious advantage over traditional braces would be the patient’s appearance during treatment. However, an even more important advantage is better oral hygiene. Unfortunately, some patients don’t keep their teeth clean while in traditional wires and brackets. In many of these cases, unsightly scarring of the enamel and decay can occur. With a system like Invisalign, the appliance is easily removed and normal brushing and flossing can be completed.
Straight teeth are not only pretty, they are healthier for your entire body. Straight teeth are easy to clean which should make them last longer. Long lasting healthy teeth and gums develop less infections and inflammation. Plus, teeth that are aligned properly, are less prone to excessive wear and tear as they function during the course of a lifetime.
The cost of Invisalign varies by how many of the clear aligners are needed. If you have a minor tooth movement to complete, the cost can be quite low. If you have significant crowding that needs several aligners you might be surprised to find out that the cost may still be less than traditional braces.
